I'll say right up front that I'm not a PNR fan to begin with, but because I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood series so much, I thought I'd branch out a bit. Unfortunately, this book was nothing like BDB.
Don't get me wrong. The story was pretty good, but I lost patience with the sex. Not only was there too much of it (I swear, that's all the characters seemed to do!), but a few instances of quasi-rape really bothered me. I don't mind a little spice in my books, but when it gets in the way of the story, I'm ready to stop reading.
I also didn't like most of the characters. Tayla was fine (in fact, I liked her quite a bit), but I never knew whether I should be rooting for the demons or not. Even the demons didn't seem sure if they liked one another. More than once, a character said something like, "He's a good guy, *but* he can be a real bastard." There were also a number of times that the dialog made me roll my eyes.
Probably a book like this would really appeal to PNR fans because it has all the hallmarks of that genre. But for myself, I'll stay away from the series.
